This week in my class I had students insist that real Christians would not have supported slavery. I’ve had this before, but it still so chilling every time bc students have accused me of being anti-Christian and punished me for it.

I am a Religion professor who really wants to teach first year writing. What do I need to know? Will they consider someone outside the field of Eng?

Do it all and more. Keep your classroom a space of freedom for as long as you can. It is already an act of resistance!

Oh thank you. If I were able to follow it all, this is what I’d like to do. Find precedents and give context. As an academic who does public facing scholarship I appreciate a journalist that takes history seriously.
