I’m grateful that organizations like Produce for Good, which operates in food recovery and assistance, are stepping up in our community – but we need Congress to restore federal funding for food programs like SNAP.

It was my honor to recognize these Vietnam veterans in my district and present them with a Vietnam War Commemoration Pin as a small token of our gratitude. It represents a promise that we won’t forget their service and their sacrifice for our country.

The House just passed a funding bill that does NOTHING to stop 15 million Americans from being kicked off their health care or protect our democracy. But it DOES let Senators involved in the January 6th investigation SUE the government for $500,000 each.

I joined Feeding San Diego to distribute food in Sorrento Valley to our neighbors who are struggling to put food on the table — all because Republicans have refused to reopen the government. Thank you to everyone who is stepping up for our community right now.

I was proud to join Teamsters Local 542 for Veterans Appreciation Day. Working people keep our country running and it’s our veterans who have kept us safe. I'm so grateful for their service to our country and our community.

I joined the San Diego Food Bank for an emergency food distribution for federal workers, military families, and everyone needing some extra help right now. It shouldn’t take a court order to force the Trump Administration to do the right thing and even partially fund SNAP.

I met with San Diego County superintendents and administrators to talk about how federal immigration enforcement near schools is hurting students’ mental health and academic performance and putting enormous pressure on families, teachers, and staff. ICE is making us less safe.

I just met with local health care providers who confirmed: if Republicans let ACA premium tax credits expire, thousands of San Diegans will see HUGE increases in their health insurance costs and be forced to decide between medical treatment and rent. We can’t let that happen.

I was glad to meet with local nonprofit partners – including ASYMCA, SDMAC, STEP, Zero8Hundred, and Feeding San Diego – to discuss the impacts of the government shutdown on our service members and their families and how these organizations are stepping up to provide support.

This isn’t business-as-usual military action – it’s murder. There was no public evidence, no due process, and no legal justification. Thoughtless action like this is how we wind up in endless wars and how our service members become targets. This is beyond shameful.

If Republicans let this happen, millions of Americans will be priced out of health care and be unable to afford chemo, insulin, heart medication, and more.
