I understand why they were there and what the do and don’t mean.

The rules say it’s not possible. I see no reason to make an exception in this case. The NEC was simply making a ruling on that issue.
January 27, 2026 at 2:16 PM
No. We should rejoin but it’s not that simple. We should move closer and I believe he’s said as much recently. He was a remainer.
January 27, 2026 at 2:15 PM
I agree. But there’s nothing much the UK can do about it currently, and up until 18 months ago the ruling party believed (or said it did) that Brexit was good.
January 27, 2026 at 2:14 PM
It’s a pledge for the whole parliament. You don’t like him, fine. I’m not a huge fan myself but he’s competent and doing a good job with the current turmoil. There’s nobody out of the available choices that I think would do better.
January 27, 2026 at 2:13 PM
No, he hasn’t broken the rules, that’s not what I meant. It would require a rule change or waver to allow him to stand and he knows that. Therefore he would prefer rules not to apply to him.
January 27, 2026 at 2:12 PM
Oh - and Brexit can’t be reversed. We have to apply to join again and that’s up to the EU. We won’t have the same deal (I still think we should rejoin though).
January 26, 2026 at 12:38 PM
They are there because re running the last GE on Brexit lines would have been stupid. He’s moving closer. Patience.
January 26, 2026 at 12:38 PM
None. No manifesto pledges have been broken.
January 26, 2026 at 12:33 PM
No, he wants to be Leader. For his own ambition. And he’s failed at that attempt twice already. Move on.
January 26, 2026 at 12:33 PM
I agree Brexit should be reversed. That’s not Starmer’s decision though and it doesn’t make Brexit his fault. That’s the delusion. I’d support a rejoin campaign.
January 26, 2026 at 12:31 PM
Which is what Burnham should have thought about before doing something he knew was against the rules. If he’d been allowed the press would attack the rule break and stir that way. If he wants to be an MP he needs to resign as mayor and then look for a seat.
January 26, 2026 at 12:29 PM
If he had the balls to do tha and then put himself forward as an MP I’d have more time for him. Doing it this way reeks of self interest.
January 26, 2026 at 12:27 PM
It would be hilarious for people who want to see Labour civil war, lack of focus on important issues and an early election to allow reform in. Forgive me, but I didn’t think that was you? Burnham should see out his term as mayor, or should have stood as an MP instead. He had his chance. Twice.
January 26, 2026 at 12:26 PM
The NEC isn’t importing a candidate though. It’s applying a rule to exclude one.
January 26, 2026 at 12:24 PM
You can delude yourself all you like. Brexit was Cameron. Starmer is his dealing with the consequences of a very poor referendum being treated as holy writ. Dislike him if it makes you happy but this delusion isn’t healthy.
January 26, 2026 at 12:22 PM
How the fuck is it Starmer’s Brexit? He’s not perfect but Brexit is nothing to do with him - and it’s not in his gift to go back in either.
January 24, 2026 at 1:45 PM
Quite
January 23, 2026 at 11:45 PM
No, it says ‘for the next decade’.
January 22, 2026 at 7:34 PM
You think it would cost much less to just buy the planes? This way a chunk of the money goes into the local economy via the workers’ spends
January 22, 2026 at 7:33 PM
What chaos is that then?
January 22, 2026 at 7:31 PM
Plus the planes. Plus less reliance on the US. Much better than spending the same money buying planes from elsewhere.
January 22, 2026 at 1:43 PM
Why? If your constituents agree with you about the changes and want to stay with the original ideas, or the ideas of another party you might join, they can reelect you.
January 22, 2026 at 1:41 PM
And if that’s what has been happening they can vote them back in. As it is they will switch from one set of policies to a different set which their constituents may not like at all.
January 21, 2026 at 3:35 PM
And that comes from the party manifesto. With the whipping system it’s pretty hard to represent amything but the manifesto - rightly for most matters of business.
