"After we talked through the experiment, the postdoc said, 'I think it’s time to go home and get some sleep.' He added with a smile, 'Taking a break is also hard work, you know?'

Those comments planted the seed of a new approach." #NationalPostdocAppreciationWeek https://scim.ag/4n7LNPZ

A big thanks to NC Rep. Valerie Foushee for being the first signature on this bipartisan letter urging the House to maintain a strong commitment to funding for NIH in the 2026 Appropriations bill. Is your Representative here?

"efficiency"...just pondering all the lost "man"hours that went into applications for programs that no longer exist. For applicants themselves, for mentors that reviewed those applications, for committees/staff that organized those programs, for faculty that reviewed those applications

This is very clear that the president cannot unilaterally reduce NIH indirect rates.

So, either one branch of the government will either hold the other to account or we can take yet another step toward anti intellectual authoritarianism.
Here's a very important update from the AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges) on the proposed cuts to NIH Indirect costs: "Every year since 2017, the annual spending bill that funds NIH has included language prohibiting the Administration from making changes to F&A cost rates" 1/2 🧪

I think some people hear “grants” and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service.

“Pausing” grants means people don’t eat.
White House pauses all federal grants, sparking confusion
The Trump administration has put a hold on all federal financial grants and loans, affecting tens of billions of dollars in payments.
