I think one of the worst things about evangelicalism is the combination of insisting all people are depraved sinners who deserve eternal torture and promising nothing can undo your salvation. It conditions you to want cruelty done to others because they’re not on your team.

Yes but they’re untrained and stupid. They’d probably all gather at the front door trying to intimidate the manager into letting them in.

I got a dog from a small rescue a woman ran from her home. I asked to use her bathroom and she said she needed to lock up the aggressive dogs first. I was picturing German shepherds and Rottweilers. It was wall to wall stacked crates of angry chihuahuas. She was absolutely living her best life.

This is the legacy I want.

This might be anecdata, but I’ve heard enough people in the US talking about not being able to afford kids (despite wanting them) that I can’t imagine worrying about the birth rate as a separate issue from affordability.

It’s spiritual bypassing (“don’t be sad, you’ll see them again in heaven!”) without religion. It’s ghoulish.

I get that you didn’t intend mockery. It wasn’t clear if you considered PDA a real phenomenon or silly therapyspeak. I can appreciate it doesn’t feel good to be misunderstood. I’ve seen too many teachers roll their eyes at neurodivergent students’ needs to assume good faith when it’s not clear.
November 27, 2025 at 6:56 AM
You mentioned it in response to a joke whose premise was “get a load of this bullshit excuse” and shared your anecdote of a parent stating PDA was why their kid wasn’t doing homework. I’m glad to hear you took it seriously. That wasn’t at all clear from what you said.
November 27, 2025 at 4:53 AM
If you had a parent who said “my kid has dyslexia and often gets frustrated and gives up on reading assignments” or “my kid has ADHD and will do the work but forget to turn it in,” what would you do? You’ve been told a symptom is interfering with a student’s ability to do the work. That’s all.

That headline is flippant garbage. The article is… whatever. But the framing of laziness vs. suspiciously convenient new clinical term is gross. If you experience PDA, learning the term—and strategies for managing it—can be life-changing. If you don’t, it’s easy to make it into a lazy joke.

Just confirmed my household’s ballots were counted! Fingers crossed for Mayor Katie Wilson!!

Omg this is a treasure!!

The remarkable tablet was a game changer for staying on track with clinical notes as a therapist. (Write by hand all day, convert to text at quitting time, export and copy into my EHR.) I really like their products!

I hadn’t connected the dots before and assumed fermented/cultured dairy products were developed because they keep longer (and taste good)… but fermenting probably also protects against the risks of raw milk, doesn’t it?

I am exactly that sort of Chicago person, didn’t know this fact, and am extremely entertained. Thank you.

I’m not helping the trans community by (checking my notes) objecting to Newsom parroting false, hateful, right wing talking points about them? I should sit down and shut up while the smart political animals make trans people safer by… opposing their basic rights—am I understanding you correctly?
August 23, 2025 at 10:32 PM
You can’t advocate for trans dignity while also saying we need to let political animals strategically deploy vicious, dehumanizing transphobia. Newsom is overtly, explicitly advocating against the basic rights of trans adults. This is an easy, obvious thing to draw a line about.
August 23, 2025 at 8:26 PM
I voted for Kamala even though she’s despicable on Gaza. I’d vote for Newsom if it was him vs Trump. But this isn’t Election Day. We don’t have to choose between Newsom and someone worse. He’s feeding a dangerous, hateful movement against trans people and there’s no reason to give him a pass.
August 23, 2025 at 7:15 PM
Having love and respect for a group of people means you don’t defend someone who is advocating against their dignity and rights. Also, Newsom adding fuel to the anti-trans fire only strengthens the right wing movement—we’re not going to beat them by hating the same people they do.

I like to imagine there’s a heaven, everyone gets to go, and for James Dobson that makes it his perfect hell. I think death is probably just “lights out,” but it’s nice to think about.

It’s not. A fucking. GAME

It’s not that it’s hard. There are trucks filled with aid waiting to be let in. Israel is keeping aid out.
