Just had a confused person asking why I’m hoping to move away from education / working with kids. I answer that by telling the story of a time a teenager called me Hitler because I wanted them to eat some dinner after doing a full day of sports and skipping lunch…
Teachers are angels.

This is our guide, Garap, who has now successfully guided me through two severe illnesses in the Himalayas

So I promised myself I would do an art market or fair this year. I’d love some tips for preparation from someone who’s done it before. What kind of things surprised you? What did you wish you’d known for your first market?

I tried a life drawing class today - I’ve not done life drawing since about 10 years ago. It was fun! I’m going to keep making whatever I feel like for a bit ~

Had to change the route of our trek a few times due to sickness, but fortunately half the group really likes maps!

trying to remember that shitty art is better than no art so I gotta just draw whatever and not worry about it. can't get better if I'm not even doing it at all

I tried a new diet last week. It’s called “get food poisoning while trekking at altitude.” Lost 1kg in a week. Feels terrible. Do not recommend.

It was so cold that my camera stopped working, but I did manage to snap some photos on my phone by keeping it inside a glove inside my thermals

I’m not usually one to brag, but I’m really proud of myself right now! I just hiked the Lauribina Pass in the Himalayas this week. I’m not used to altitude and I got quite sick, but I pushed through and hit the 4610m altitude peak!

For the first time ever, I’m actually keeping a travel journal! Something about Nepal just makes me want to draw and write

I’m ready! I’m flying to Nepal tomorrow, and my fleece buff arrived just in time. I might be sleeping in this thing

I’ve been in Hanoi for a few months now, and I’m starting to build up the courage to use the Vietnamese I’ve managed to learn. But the tones are so hard, and I feel like a bumbling idiot!

Tôi đến Hà Nội vào tháng 9. Tôi đang học tiếng Việt. Tôi muốn nói tiếng Việt tốt, nhưng rất khó!

I keep a travel sketchbook, but I don’t do it until I get home from the trip. I prefer fully enjoying the moment as it’s happening and then painting it in the peace of the studio

Something being “difficult to read” isn’t a bad thing. Careful study, rereading, being challenged is key to reading — and to life. If you only want to “easy” art, maybe you don’t enjoy art at all so much as having your outlook supported and unchallenged.

If you see this, post a ghost 👻
This is from the children’s book “The Refrigerator Ghost” which I illustrated (my first book!)

Can we talk about how talented and hard working tour guides are?

I love a good bit of off-beat travel — long hikes, scuba diving, camping and all that. But I also love coming home after the trip to a hot shower and my comfy bed

I have started every day of this year so far with a cup of tea in bed. This is the kind of vibe I’m hoping to embody for 2025.

I’ve been trying to think of ways to display my photos and art together, so I’m trying my hand at some digital collaging. I think I like it!

I usually decorate my studio with prints I’ve bought from other artists, but I’ve decided the corner where I do yoga will be for my things — maps I’ve used, photos I’ve taken, and poster I’ve made based on my travels
