‘Dr Mensah might actually be an intrepid galactic explorer’ is such a reverent compliment & ‘I will stay on to fight the raiders’ is so noble AND funny. Truth needs humour to land on: Murderbot is sincerely using the language of what it loves to admire & sacrifice.

Every part of the rescue mission gets a great grace note: Mensah knowing what to do but being scared. Ratthi being the one who says ‘fuck that’ as refusing an unacceptable situation is brave despite lack of skills! Arada & Pin-Lee shoring each other up: ‘You don’t mean that. It’s a very cool rule.’

The show trusts us: Murderbot says ‘my useless clients’ & the show knows we know it’s concerned. Murderbot is only able to say ‘your actions are a violation of security protocol’ but the halting delivery made me tear up much more than it saying ‘thank you’ would have- I heard ‘thank you’ anyway.

I’ve loved #murderbot & its eponymous hero all along but episode 4 is the ep that gelled the team for me & made me love their connections together! A note I adore is Murderbot conceptualises itself outside its body as a robot being: no sense of the human face as its ‘true self’ because of course.

I have now seen Alexander Skarsgard’s face (a killing machine with a sweet face!) & am reminded Murderbot thinks his head is ‘standard, generic human.’ Barbie joke ‘Margot Robbie is the wrong person to cast to make this point…’ (Murderbot is an innocent.) Standard Generic Human Face:
