Two orchids from two local parks today. Pyramidal (a new record for the park) and (I think as still out and not checked) common spotted x southern marsh hybrid (one of many).

Not speeded up, just a very hungry bat! (Common pipistrelle)
Found trapped in a house this week, and released after a couple of nights captivity in order to put some weight back on.

My favourites from this week - large skipper, marbled white, six-spot burnet & ringlet.

Two of Leicestershires hard rock quarries - Cliffe Hill and Croft. Surprised to see lots of southern marsh orchids in very dry places at Cliffe Hill.

Some of the meadow buttercups in a field near me have interesting white & yellow colour combos

More of my local park. With pepper-saxifrage, great burnet, knapweed, ox-eye daisy and rough hawkbit.

A few faves this week from my local park (and local wildlife site). Lots of southern marsh, common spotted orchids and their hybrids, plus grass vetchling (1000’s live in the SUDs basin), adder’s-tongue ferns and pepper-saxifrage.

This narrow-leaved birds foot trefoil really likes the edges of the mown paths on the hill behind my estate. And it had colonised around the SUDs ponds until they started mowing them more frequently as some people are obsessed with everything looking tidy.

Bee orchid on a local roundabout. Last year it was mown before it could flower so this year I placed a hanging basket over it, which has worked well to keep it safe, including from a feral motorcyclist last night, and today it got a new basket.

We have one on our local roundabout (the basket is to prevent it being mown by the council which is what happened last year)

Large skipper nectaring on bramble on Sharpley Hill, south Notts.

With one still showing how they should all be looking.

How the SUDs basins mostly were.

More new build #greenwash in a large urban extension in Northants. Wildflower meadows created but mown into oblivion, or not sown at all, wet grassland mix sown in some of the 11 SUDs basins but left unmanaged so being lost to brambles etc, and the woodland planting missing entirely.

Saw a lot of mismatched brickwork on a large new development in Wellingborough. This was my fave.

Weld growing on a former station platform (along with lots of tansy), along what is now a heritage railway line in south Notts.
