I grew up in SF (parents still there) among artists, dancers, poets, queer people, normies, and weirdos. The destruction the tech and corporate assimilation has wrought on the artist culture of the city is immeasurable. Tech culture is incompatible with art, and hollows out cities. In NYC too.

Pre-Meta. Pre ads. Pre reels. Pre "content" by "creatives" and "influencers." Pre my non-artist friends even. It was a cute little place for photo people.

It's complicated. I like sharing my work and connecting with people I might not otherwise meet or know, and talking about new work with them, but I actually don't like "publishing" new work, and intentionally don't put anything on my website that hasn't been exhibited because I have had work stolen.

You are absolutely right. The best work is not the best creative-engagement-crap. We're living in garbage times.

FYI your post shows up here when you post in the pink place. I did not repost this. Interesting.

I completely agree. It is not (yet) what I need as an artist. I miss the pre-Meta IG. I am trying this out but it is way too much like Twitter. Which is why I was initially here to shout about politics (which I still do, on a different account, much more than I am here, as myself). Sigh.
