Oops, left out 6/10 — it’s a little different. Just a micro essay.

These are the witching hours, the hours of magic, the time of ideas. The clock strikes one, and the single chime starts the spell: Oh, little artist, now you will be able to draw. Now the ideas will pour out of you. Now you will pen down ten thousand words in a hurry, and your head will snap up suddenly when the chimes strike thrice, and oh, oh, oh! Why so late again?   But these are the witching hours. The hours of magic. Who else does magic belong to if not the artists, the writers, the poets, the lovers? Who else can be changed by the chimes?

Day 4/101 of drawing + writing project — Cassandra's Curse. This one was born of frustrated thoughts and a conversation with a friend yesterday who was feeling this sense too.

It feels rotten, doesn’t it? A strange disconnect, some sort of otherworldliness, a what-the-hell-is-going-on feeling that rolls through the flesh and burrows into the mind.

In a burning hot summer, hotter than the last, and the next will be hotter still, and the rubbish bins overflow, plastic scattering in the breeze until it catches in the hedges and sage and lands in the rivers to sink down, down, down, we talk of all of this. How can it be that we See, know hope, and yet say Little Can Be Done? Everything can be done! We could live with less—live gladly with less, couldn’t we? Why is less mistaken for lack? Why is good framed as suffering? Why is excess confused with ease?

The green curls in on itself and in a burning hot summer scatters to ash.

Day 3/101 - three for three.

I’m starting a 101 draw + write challenge for myself. This is pretty much just exploratory. I need to see what can come from just cutting loose and doing it. Giving myself this mini framing will (hopefully) help.

It’s been an odd time. Depression grabbed me this winter and held me in a vise for months. Slowly, I crept out in spring. In May, I went with my sisters to Ireland (here is an instax of the Gallarus Oratory there). Now, I have spent the beginnings of summer with old friends.

So rainy here in NY that it hasn’t been light enough for me to get the best pics (so the colors seem a bit more gray/muted here), but I think this is done—just glancing at it from time to time before I call it.
