At @e4dca.bsky.social, we launched an open letter in support of the #StandUpForScience rally, but we didn’t stop there.

🚫 Thousands of datasets erased—critical for Canada’s climate & health research.

Here’s what’s happening:
📉 Mass layoffs at NOAA, NIH & EPA are disrupting thousands of Cdn & U.S. research projects, esp. in climate & environmental science.

💰 Funding cuts put Cdn research at risk—NIH alone provided $57.3M CAD to Cdn researchers last year.

This is already harming Canadian scientists.

Some have lost funding overnight. Others are using burner phones to contact U.S. colleagues out of fear of phone taps and email monitoring. Many are racing to save datasets before they’re erased from U.S. federal websites.

That’s why @e4dca.bsky.social and a coalition of Canadian researchers, advocates, and organizations have signed an Open Letter in Solidarity with the Stand Up for Science movement. We are calling on everyone who believes in the power of science to add their voice.

“Ontarians rely on science every single day—whether it’s the clean water we drink, the healthcare we trust, or the technologies that power our economy,” says @sarahlaframboise.bsky.social , E4D’s Executive Director. “Yet, science is often missing from political conversations.” 2/3
