Had such a wonderful writing class on at Greenspell Herbal School last Wednesday! We went on the world’s tiniest plant walk to a strip of untended green space at the edge of the parking lot found hidden natural beauty. Then: we wrote letters & poems in praise of decay, ancestry, renewal, & compost!

Thrilled to be teaching a class next week! “In Praise of Decay, Compost & Renewal” will be at Greenspell Herbal Academy in Chicago on 10/22. We‘ll be observing the natural world as it transitions to winter, then write in praise of our ancestors, kin, & whatever else continues to nourish us.

A black swallow tail on clover in north eastern Illinois while #bloomscrolling this morning. That gold and royal blue on its lower wings is incredible. The Midwestern prairie is a grass forest.

Cancelling the Disney channel which is ABC owned. When you boycott companies send them a letter instead of an email. It shows that you’re mad enough to take the time to print out the letter, find a stamp, & walk to the mailbox.

Every time I see a honey bee I am reminded of someone deeply in love. May we all love and honor life as much as they do.

This #monarch caterpillar finally got off the milkweed and is hopefully cocooning somewhere safe in the yard. The family named him Carle. Good luck, Carle!

It’s been an incredible year for butterflies and moths. I’ve never seen so many out in the prairie of northern Illinois. Here are clouded yellows on echinacea. Grateful to all the people past and present who take care of this special land #bloomscrolling

A very happy monarch sipping on a Joe-Pye weed that sprung up among our hostas. I’m glad I let this weed grow. This is who comes to your yard when you let native plants do their thing #bloomscrolling
