I didn’t even mentioned the US. I said “the West,” and in this context the real comparison is between women’s rights in Israel and those in Palestine and Iran. Very few women would (freely!) choose to live in a fundamentalist Islamic culture or state…

People on social media seem incapable of nuanced thinking. I know my country’s flaws inside and out—not saying it’s incapable of evil. But it’s also true that, on average, women’s lives are much better in the West than they are anywhere else.

This is the tiresome danger in getting involved in social media arguments. Please don’t imply that I’m racist or denying genocide—that’s offensive and disgusting, as well as deaf to what I actually said.

I wasn’t condoning war crimes which are always reprehensible. I was just pointing out the differences in women’s rights within each culture. But I also think it’s important to acknowledge that the Palestinians probably wouldn’t be acting any differently if the situation were reversed.

There’s no way to win arguments about whose regime is more “evil.” It’s just a fact, however, that Israeli women have many more rights and freedoms than Iranian women. 🤷🏻‍♀️
