Paul Freedman used Wickham in his Yale course on the Early Middle Ages (which is available in it's entirety on YouTube). He mostly agrees with Wickham that the post-Imperial period was a transformation and that the "dark ages" framing is overblown. Freedman thinks it was rougher than Wickham.
