The Trump doc was just the excuse the right-wing in the UK - needed to get rid of the people they accuse of liberal bias at the BBC. They've been gunning for them for years

I left the UK in 1997, returned in 2005, then left again in 2011. Both times I left it was for a more interesting life, the idea that there must be more than living in the same place that you were born for the rest of your life. Now, you couldn't pay me enough to live in the UK again.

I don't think it can be much clearer that Tesco are, in fact, celebrating Christmas

An elderly Portuguese couple were killed by Storm Claudia too, not just the British woman

"Despite inflation dropping, prices remain high, leading shoppers to accuse the major retailers of profiteering."

Tell me you don't understand how inflation works, without etc etc

He was also president of the Polish Air Force Association in the UK. He was eventually awarded the Commander’s Cross with Star of the Order of Polonia Restituta, the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit and the Order of Merit with Star in Poland.

Interesting, thank you for that. I do remember being told that he was considered a traitor.

Yes, my great-uncle only returned to Poland for a visit in the early 90s, after the fall of communism. It was probably family legend, but I remember being told that he couldn't return under the old regimes. Who knows when he would have been forced to return under the new rules?

My great-uncle survived two years in a Siberian labour camp before volunteering for the Polish Air Force, arriving in the UK in 1943. In a long RAF career, he became Air Vice Marshall, trained King Charles and was awarded CBE and CB.

That's who they think are arriving (in Benidorm, apparently) in small boats

Pre-coffee maths – they would be in their late 60s

Assuming you can discount the opinions of people who were children in 1975 – I was 3 and remember nothing about the state of the environment or streets – anyone who might actually remember life back then would be in their late 70s now. 'Most people' are not in their late 70s.

Also, 'almost never'? How are the public meant to know whether something is true or made up?
November 14, 2025 at 12:15 PM
It may be the agreed rules between government and media, but who told the public this is it works? The gov communicates, through the media, to the public – maybe everyone should be aware of the rules?
November 14, 2025 at 12:12 PM
Not only do you stick to it, you call people dumb as fuck for not understanding how it works. At a time when trust in media and gov is extremely low, maybe reflect on that?

In Lisbon last year, I saw a man getting very angry with airport staff because they told him his EU-embossed passport didn't allow him to use the EU gate any more. Apparently, they were being 'extremely unreasonable' and he didn't have time to join the much longer non-EU queue 🙄

Healthcare/social care workers, emergency services, armed forces are all eligible too, right?

She's had a passport for 10 years, but still doesn't know how passports work?

Interesting, I just saw this.

We all have our thing, mine is the use of alternate rather than alternative. I'm surprised to see the number of comments about pled/pleaded too, I hadn't realised that pled is a US thing.
