Any Questions last night with Rees-Mogg saying words to the effect of "well you can voluntarily pay more tax if you like!" as if he's created a real "gotcha" moment. One to listen to if you want to start your day feeling angry! 🙂

D'oh, tagged the wrong Reform! Though your answer was so believable that I already sent a screenshot 😄

The arguments against it were a complete nonsense. Also, if they genuinely felt it didn't go far enough, they had options to submit amendments to improve the ambition. But saying "it's not just women & girls" is a failure to understand, or to even try to understand, the huge issues specific to VAWG.

I sincerely hope that @reformuk.bsky.social Cllrs start educating themselves.

I feel very angry listening to Reform Cllr justifications for voting against. Some also claimed that because the issue is societal (poverty etc), there's no point doing anything to try & address VAWG. It's just a nonsense - here's the webcast if you too want to feel angry: tinyurl.com/y6bt9mtp

Liz Truss was old enough to have enough wisdom to listen to smart people before her "mini budget", and all of Reform should be sensible enough to learn more about climate change and urgency of action yet many opt for denial and remaining uninformed. Is age really the issue or life attitude?

I'm struggling with this. Of course, 18 seems "too young", but only on the assumption that someone who is older will have picked up appropriate skills and life experience to do a better job. But these things are definitely not guaranteed. Johnson was old enough to have had better standards, 1/

He's happy to ignore decades of research, thousands of scientific papers, and the repeated record breaking temperatures that he himself has lived through. Not sure what could possibly make it clearer!

They're beautiful. How long did it take to reach this stage? And could you share the names of some of the flowers?

It could be argued that removing checkout staff is a shame from a job loss and human interaction perspective. At the same time, Reform talks about running things like a business, and supermarkets are businesses. Are they saying here that businesses should not run things like a business now?

Thank you, I stand corrected. I've just looked it up myself, and seen that Cabinet members (not leader) get c. £22k (based on 2024 figures), so if they removed a couple of cabinet positions that would make sense.

That would very likely be the cabinet allowance for the entire term, rather than per year. Cllrs get a basic allowance and then additional allowance for positions of responsibility.

I was going to say exactly that too!

Now the bike usually just does trips to Hertford and Ware, but still forms a key part of my transport. I love cycling and I think so many more people could enjoy it too, especially with electric bikes helping to overcome the challenge of hills etc. Exercise, transport, and time outdoors all in one.
