The only reason I know about it is because I follow @spottingthespot.bsky.social and @retractionwatch.com on bsky. It's not just STOTEN. There are a lot of journals with manipulated peer review and citation rings. I try not to submit to for profit publishers (where this is more common)

The worst thing about all of this is that the work of many ethical researchers (like you) will get affected by this. You should promote your paper as much as possible in your network to make sure that your work is widely read and cited.

The editor of a STOTEN paper was a frequent coauthor of one of the authors plus he was also the PhD supervisor of the second author of the paper! Again, STOTEN from Elsevier plays a role in the fraud! Will Sergi Sabater ever face any consequences?

I thought about submitting to STOTEN, but was warned by a colleague whose negative review for a manuscript was ignored (there were serious flaws) & manuscript was published anyway. There are more allegations of editorial team not taking fraud seriously forbetterscience.com/2020/02/13/e...
Elsevier’s research integrity
A Chinese paper gets rejected at Elsevier after reviewer spotted fraud. Same paper re-appears unchanged in another Elsevier journal, the editors refuse any action.

Hopefully they won't be. Tthe problem was not just one unethical author. Former editor-in-chief (Damia Barcelo) had many unethical practices (from not preventing/encouraging conflict of interest between authors & reviewers, to accepting money to list a Saudi university as primary affiliation

It was placed on hold in the past year due to editorial malpractice and fraud see: bsky.app/profile/jutf...

Congratulations on publishing your work! I don't want to detract from your achievement, but you should be aware that STOTEN has now been removed from Web of Science Core Collections due to editorial malpractice (to say the least!) and it will no longer have an impact factor.

STOTEN is now dead. It has been completely removed from Web of Science mjl.clarivate.com/search-results
Warning to environmental scientists! 🧪🦑🌎🐟

The journal STOTEN has been placed on hold by Clarivate, meaning it is under investigation and may lose its indexing (including impact factor). Consider publishing elsewhere.
