Honestly I’m sure they don’t even think about it. Don’t be so hard on yourself

I was amazed by the teachers who were raising kids and going to grad school AND teaching full time. I couldn’t handle just the teaching part! I was exhausted all the time! They’re incredible people. Nurses, too.

Sure. I worked in 3 charter schools and 2 public school districts and the wealthy suburban district was actually the worst for this! “Here’s a classroom with no resources or supplies for 3 months!” And when you do finally get the resources there’s no training, just figure it out!

Trust me when I say “trained” should be in quotes. The training is minimal or nonexistent

And now everyone is singing the praises of “science of reading” which is basically phonics

I know for a while they were teaching “whole word” reading but I tend to do what works best for me rather than what authority wants me to do, so I was over here teaching phonics and getting better results without even realizing I wasn’t doing what I was “supposed “ to be doing 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don’t know anything about 3-cueing. I quit teaching last year but I never used it. I always taught phonics, and I was shocked when I learned other teachers weren’t. We did try to teach various methods for using context clues, like prediction, but personally I found those ineffective.

It really is better for giving kids numeracy skills, which are crucial. But there’s so much uninformed pushback that has hurt implementation.

Common Core Math isn’t actually a thing. There are common core standards that state what must be taught, but they don’t dictate HOW to teach it. You’re probably referring to Singapore Math, which is a method that improves numeracy skills. It’s used in the countries with the highest math scores.
