Sadly, it is true. The Labour government is truly transphobic. Utterly sickening. There's a link in this article to a clip of Karin Smyth actually saying it.

2/2 All humans share certain traits/experiences, but we all have differences too. Not sure why we should ignore the differences & not acknowledge them. Doesn't mean we want to be separate, just accepted as we are. Identity is important, & shouldn't be ignored. The article I shared explains more.

1/2 Do LGBTQ+ people 'constantly use them to highlight differences'? When talking to LGBTQ+ people is that your experience? It's not mine. I only refer to myself as a lesbian, or to the LGBTQ+ community when it's relevant, not all the time in daily life. What makes you think we do it 'constantly'?

Some positive reasons for LGBTQ labels:
Reducing ambiguity
Enabling self identity
Communities are based on identity
Accurate representation
Saving explanations
Providing a starting point in communication, relationships
Reducing marginalisation by being recognised in society
Awareness of diversity.

We all have labels/words to describe aspects of who we are. E.g. you use 'old guy', other examples - woman, man, straight, white, black, disabled, atheist, Christian, Muslim, boomer, Gen X, working/upper class. Labels don't have to mean separation, they just describe us, & communities we're part of.
