Musa swallowed, before lifting his filthy cotton shirt slightly, exposing the stark hollow of his hip bone, my gut clenching at the sight of a tattoo etched into his stomach. The wrinkled skin about the marks laced with Vyrium, tinged with dark green.

Pablo padded over, nuzzling the man’s hip. “I want the truth,” I demanded. “You married an idiot.” “I know that,” I said, crossing my arms. “What I don’t know, though, is your name.” Above a bird of prey let out a sharp cry. The man looked up, a swirling smile lighting up his face. “Hawk.”

I've regretted not punching him in his perfectly smug face ever since. Depending on what the man was about to tell me, I might just do it. I hadn't anything left to lose. One of the first became a snack for the wolf and I refuse to accept any blame for that poor creature's loss. However, I did have a pang of regret for the two who'd simply flung themselves out of the fourth floor window rather than succumb to any request I made of them. I groaned, rubbing my pounding temples. Glesni turned to me, her lips pursed. "Those headaches are getting worse, child. You really need to focus if we're going to stop this." I stared longingly at the jug of mead as I blinked. "Sharing three bottles of wine after dinner last night hasn't helped either." Glesni barked out a laugh that rattled my brain and I winced. "I don't think I can do this today." I said as Glesni poured me a glass which I quickly downed, relishing the slight reprieve. "You can't afford not to. Regardless of much fine wine is floating through those gifted veins, you can't miss a day. Not unless you've suddenly decided death is more welcome." I groaned, laying my arms on the table and resting my head on them. "Actually, right now, death sounds - Ouch!" Glesni sat with a groan of her own, the rolled parchment she'd just slapped across my head clutched in her hand.
