Teacher educator (literacy / English Ed) at SUNY Oswego. Lover of young adult lit. Finn's mom.
Just finished my first #NCTE24 read: The Color of a Lie by Kim Johnson. It's FAB-U-LOUS. I so want to be teaching this with a group of juniors/seniors who have just read A Raisin in the Sun, talking about redlining and Levittowns. 1/3

Aiden Thomas @aidenschmaiden.bsky.social reminds us here at #ALAN24 that "seeing oneself in books is both affirming and lifesaving... Books are resilient. You can ban a book but you can't erase the truth it holds." 1/2

I am so inspired by these authors at #ALAN24 and thinking about all the books I will be able to share with students/per-service candidates. Thank you to the authors for their work and the publishers for sharing!

Bryan Stevenson tells us it's time to change the narrative. It's time for truth and reconciliation, and English teachers can do this work through the power of literature. Hopelessness is the enemy of justice: we have to be agents of hope and be willing to do the uncomfortable thing. #NCTE24

"Writing is a political instrument." - James Baldwin. Ellen Oh reminds us that books are powerful and can save democracy. Say NO to censorship! Thank you Ellen Oh for your advocacy and leadership in this fight - our kids do deserve their happily ever after! @ellenoh.bsky.social #ALAN #NCTE24

"The arc bends towards justice, but only because people pull it towards justice, it doesn't happen on its own" Holder, via Dr King - Jason Low reminds us that we will fight for the right to #LETTHEMREAD here at #ALAN #NCTE24
