For those that are similarly wondering but haven't Googled yet, many of Mars' volcanic rocks are dark coloured because they are primarily composed of olivine or pyroxene. The pointed rocks are called "hoodoos", and their shape is the result of mixed rock hardness combined with wind and sand erosion
