Post Doc @ Heriot-Watt University | coastal ocean chemist transitioning into a open ocean biologist | ocean acidification | coccolithophores | carbon cycle | BioCarbon CHAlKY project 🌊
At the #LyellCentre we had a coccolithophore coffee morning 🍰

🌊 Today (10/10) is the first International Coccolithophore Day!
These microscopic algae build calcium shells, fuel ocean life, and regulate Earth’s carbon.

oh hey Plymouth
Ready for three full days of coccolithphores at @thembauk.bsky.social 🤓

This mornings was definitely all about #ocean #iron - @cmarkmoore.bsky.social finished off the session highlighting findings from Jo Ainsworth’s PhD work as part of #CUSTARD and the #iron and #carbon cycles
June 24, 2025 at 11:12 AM
This was then upped by Tess Ashen @plymouthmarine.bsky.social who had a great schematic

I particularly enjoyed this slide as a non #iron #biogeochemist - saving as a cheat sheet for later

This morning we have moved away from yesterdays unofficial theme of #coccolithophores to nutrients with talks by Robyn Tuerena
@samsocean.bsky.social and the #C-streams project, Anna Belcher @ukceh.bsky.social and @biopole.bsky.social project and a keynote by @altagliabue.bsky.social on #iron
June 24, 2025 at 10:12 AM
Starting this morning session - in I think the hardest slot of the two days (morning after conference dinner) was Marta Santos Garcia sharing her #PhD work on #Nitrogen #Fixation changes in the #Arctic #Ocean

Back at @edinburgh-uni.bsky.social #ECCI (Edinburgh Climate Change Institute) for Day 2 of #AMBIO #MASTS #Ocean #Biogeochemistry meeting 🌊

#AMBIO afternoon sessions starting with a super interesting key note from @drplanktonpoo.bsky.social
Never thought I would hear diarrhoea mentioned in an #ocean #biogeochemist conference!
June 23, 2025 at 2:15 PM
As a non modeller I enjoyed @nanophyto.bsky.social explanation of ensemble based models
June 23, 2025 at 10:26 AM
This morning has focused strongly on #ocean #biogeochemistry #models
with talks by @miriamseif.bsky.social, Aaron Naidoo-Bagwell and Joost de Vries
#AMBIO 🌊
June 23, 2025 at 10:24 AM
The joint @challengersoc.bsky.social #AMBIO & @mastscot.bsky.social #biogeochemistry forum meeting has kicked off in #Edinburgh
Starting us off is Prof Alex Poulton’s keynote on the biological carbonate pump.
Looking forward to two days of all things #marine #biogeochemistry 🌊

Post docs wear many hats, today it is a catering hat👩‍🍳☕️🍪

First time back at Kings Building since undergrad, had to of course get a falafel wrap, which fuelled many a study session and still reminisced about amongst KB friends. Although the wrap stations had quite a makeover since then 🧆

Yesterday we did a team #oceanCANDY away day - our last “away day” was to the connecting building to give talks so this was a vast improvement

Since moving home to Scotland I’ve really enjoyed connecting with other Scottish researchers including @mastscot.bsky.social members and @scotsages.bsky.social, recently attending SAGES Sci Comm workshop in Oban and the ASM in Stirling. The sci com workshop has definitely influenced me…

Recently I started an ECR journal club at the Lyell with @bengustafson.bsky.social to bring together postdocs, PhDs and research assistants to talk papers and also meet other ECRs in the building. Sometimes we provide pizza too, always helps with attendance 🍕
June 5, 2025 at 10:00 AM
Alongside my research I am also keen advocate of outreach, science communication and building communities - at Easter I took part in the Meet the Scientist Day at Dynamic Earth as part of Edinburgh Science Featival and had kids blowing in cabbage water to visualise #oceanacidification
June 5, 2025 at 10:00 AM
I finished my PhD in 2023 in tropical coastal carbonate chemistry and coral reefs in Belize at @noc.ac.uk as part of the #CMEprogramme and left my permanent mark on the NOC 🍾
June 5, 2025 at 10:00 AM
Attended my first @scotsages.bsky.social ASM yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed, had planned to take lots of pictures and share my day but I forgot my phone! Thanks to @philipparickard.bsky.social for snapping this pic while I presented!

Every month The Lyell Centre holds a joint seminar between @heriotwattuni.bsky.social and the British Geological Survey. Today @marijasciberras.bsky.social gave a very interesting talk about carbon & seafloor disturbances from fishing, highlighting findings and benefits of meta analysis.

At Edinburgh Science Festival Meet the Scientist event at Dynamic Earth playing with cabbage water to visualise ocean acidification! Starting awareness of our ocean young!
