In Memoriam by Alice Winn. I took a brief break from reading/neglecting my child to come here and tell you how good and heartbreaking and horrible and beautiful this is. Not done yet but do recommend.

Endurance: Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing. I am a slow reader. I read this in five days. I neglected my sleep, self-care, and child in favor of this book (he’s fine).

When We Cease to Understand the World by Benjamin Labatut. My brother recommended this, explaining that it’s about tech advances between the world wars. I think it’s actually about how math makes people crazy. I can’t even describe how nuts this book is.

Chesapeake Requiem by Earl Swift. I picked this up on a whim (shoutout to The Buzzed Word in OCMD) a year ago and kept asking myself why I bought a 500 page book about crabbing. Finally figured I should read it and… holy cow. Amazing storytelling about a strangle little slice of the world.

Best books I read this year, in no particular order:
The House in the Cerulean Sea (and sequel Somewhere Across the Sea) by TJ Klune. Absolutely magical and terrifically cozy.
