Now they’re 11 and 14 and they love reading Graphic Novels and Chapter books. My 14 year old is wading into YA Fantasy. I never shame them for reading Graphic Novels but I make sure what they read is age appropriate based on their current maturity.

I’m a big reader so my kids always saw me reading and so they wanted to read too. I read books to them from a young age. They would memorize and “read” them on their own. I bought them Step Into Reading Level books with their favourite characters, took them to the library and let them pick books.

I just listened to Sue Lynn Tan’s newest book Immortal on Spotify Audiobooks and it was amazing. If you like epic fantasy based on Chinese mythology and romance with a hero who is madly in love with the heroine while she tries to pretend she hates him. I highly recommend. It’s not spicy.

Dany is 13 in the books. She doesn’t need a love interest. She was a child bride to Kal Drogo and now she’s free. She needs friends and allies. Romance can come when she’s at least 19 if she survives in the books.

The Boneless Mercies by April Genevieve Tucholke. They are not Vikings but it is based on Norse Mythology. It’s a dark, atmospheric and heartbreaking story.
