2) the process for getting authorization to deviate from a set of restrictions is absolutely BONKERS. US Steel has obtain Trump’s written consent as long as he is President. When he is not President, oversight moves to Treasury and Commerce.

Apparently (and I was not the one to figure this out) Trump’s claimed “tariffs charged to the U.S.” are simply trade balance with U.S. divided by imports to U.S. In other words - not tariffs:

Received this email last night. Anyone who has submitted an nsf proposal knows that the broader impacts component has explicitly emphasized training of graduate students from underrepresented backgrounds.
