The Adelaide Festival 2025 Impact Report-which includes Writers' Week - showed the festival generated $62.6 million in economic value to the state, with Writers' Week 2025 drawing a record-breaking 160,000 attendees.

‘This is a blatant and shameless act of anti-Palestinian racism and censorship and a despicable attempt to associate me with the Bondi massacre. What makes this so egregiously racist is that the Adelaide Writers Festival Board has stripped me of my humanity and agency, reducing me to an object onto which others can project their racist fears and smears. ‘The Board’s reasoning suggests that my mere presence is “culturally insensitive”; that I, a Palestinian who had nothing to do with the Bondi atrocity, am somehow a trigger for those in mourning and that I should therefore be persona non grata in cultural circles because my very presence as a Palestinian is threatening and “unsafe”. cont'd --> ‘After two years of Israel’s live-streamed genocide of Palestinians, Australian arts and cultural institutions continue to reveal their utter contempt and inhumanity towards Palestinians. The only Palestinians they will tolerate are silent and invisible ones. ‘I remain confident that the writing community and the broader public will ultimately respond with principle and integrity, as they did when I was singled out in the same racist way during the Bendigo Writers Festival. In the end, the Adelaide Writers Festival will be left with panellists who demonise a Palestinian out of one side of their mouths while waxing lyrical about freedom of speech from the other.’

Reem Badwan is pictured Killed at 3 years old In a video shared around the world, Khaled Nabhan held up the lifeless body of his 3-year-old granddaughter, Reem, kissed her eyes and called her the "soul of my soul." She was killed in a strike alongside her brother, Taria, 5, in November 2023. Tala Abu Ajwa is pictured Killed at 10 years old Tala was killed while she was wearing her pink inline skates. Tala loved her friends, parties and visiting family. In her last days, "however, she had become very afraid - terrified by the war, the sounds of bombing, missiles, and the constant presence of death around her," her father said. Hind Rajab is pictured Killed at 6 years old Hind spent her final hours trapped in a bullet-ridden car, surrounded by the bodies of six relatives, making desperate calls for help. For three hours, a Red Crescent operator stayed on the line, reciting the Quran and comforting her as an Israeli tank approached. "Come get me, quickly," she pleaded. Twelve days later, Hind was found dead. Mohammed and Ahmed al-Harbeiti are photographed together. Killed at 13 years old Mohammed, 13, and Ahmed, 11, were crushed by a tank on June 7, 2024, according to their mother, Raja Hamed Hamdouna. Before the war, the two boys would show their love by tidying up around the house. Mohammed loved kebabs and memorized seven chapters of the Quran, Hamdouna said; Ahmed loved old black-and-white movies and was "loved by everyone - the joyful soul of our family."
