Hey Bluesky, I'm Sarah 👋 I decided to create this account after having a blast at #ESAus24. I have a background in #zoology, #ecology and #wildlife #conservation. I studied the LHI stick insect for my masters at Unimelb, and then #primates (including #gibbon N. annamensis below) for my PhD at ANU!

The world has lost one of its true heroes. RIP Dr Jane Goodall, our world is a much better place because you were in it, and we will keep fighting for conservation, just like you taught us.

This week I presented on the TSX @aus-tsx.bsky.social at the @ausmammals.bsky.social conference. Like last year, I had a great time! Such a welcoming and friendly group of researchers doing really important work for Australia's mammals. Also still #1 for the best conference dinner in my book.

Next up for #WildlifeWednesday is the endangered Dibbler (Parantechinus apicalis) which was presumed extinct until 1967. This small, carnivorous marsupial is found in WA. They breed in autumn and adult females can carry up to 8 joeys in their pouch at one time!

🦜 For today's #WildlifeWednesday is the critically endangered Swift Parrot (Lathamus discolor) – one of three migratory parrots in the world! They breed in Tasmania in spring-summer, nesting in tree hollows of eucalypts, then migrate to the south-east of mainland Australia.

I have been meaning to check out Oxley Creek Common for quite some time, mainly for the birds. I made a special trip today, only to realise when I got there that I had left my camera battery in the charger. 🤦‍♀️

A beautiful start to the morning: a kookaburra outside my kitchen window. One day I will learn to keep my camera in a convenient location (that, or I will finally upgrade my phone). 😅
