Love these! Great to see them back on Bystock. Only fou of them, , but that is already more than last year. :) @devonwildlife

Another ‘liking bats gets you to amazing places’ post. Last night was this medieval yeoman’s house with wildflower meadows and c.100 Lesser horseshoes, and today a smaller roost at an RHS garden. @batconservation.bsky.social #NBMP

The Weymouth Link Road yesterday. It just gets better and better each year!

Scarily dry on parts of the Pebblebeds today. This stunning sundew was well and truly on dry and solid ground. Lovely to see in such detail though-I love the little droplets that look like halos.

First of the (Heath?) spotted orchids out today on the Pebblebeds. (There well nay be hybrids here too as both species are found pretty close together). #ukorchids

Bat central at tonight’s @Devonwildlife Bystock bat walk!

Nightjars (at least four of them) on the Pebblebed Heaths, filmed on Saturday.

Lovely to hear nightjars again on the East Devon heaths tonight. This is the earliest I have seen or heard one yet! We had distant churring and then one quietly fly into the pine tree nearby. (Sadly not visible in the ohoto, despite it being in the frame!) #Devonbirds

Barn owl with prey…. A rare treat to see, and particularly beautiful as the sun set on a gorgeous day. (Good to get away from the headlines for a bit….)

Nice to find newts in the garden ponds again. :)

At least 12 frogs in the allotment pond today! Makes all that work worth it. :)
February 24, 2025 at 1:16 AM
Waiting for whales today…. Lovely views, gorgeous blue skies, but no cetaceans to be seen.

One of 3 little pipistrelle bats found in a tree at @nationaltrust.bsky.social #Killerton estate today. It doesn’t exactly look very sleepy!

(This tree is checked as part of routine bat monitoring under licence, so please don’t be tempted to stick your torch in if you think you know where it is!)

Four days worth of wildlife… hibernation visits, National Highways training session, families event at Northam Burrows and DWT survey on Dartmoor!
February 21, 2025 at 1:18 AM
Time for the annual hibernation counts today for @batconservation.bsky.social & the National Bat Monitoring Project! We had 3 species, and although the numbers of Greater horseshoes were down, it was good to see a slight uptick in the number of Lessers and the return of the BLEs! Has been a while!

East Budleigh common this evening. Stunning light…

This photo makes me feel like I have struck gold. It’s not often I get to see one of these…even on a trail cam.

Today’s office: lovely views, paddling amongst Dartmoor tussocks and five harvest mouse nests. :)

Bystock this evening.

I’m monitoring a new location too-they are thought to have walked here. The only problem is they are not being very subtle about having moved in!
