a snippet of a robinhill fanfic, still a wip: He finally broke the encroaching silence that settled between them with a short clearing of his throat, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. “Should teach ‘em a thing or two about mindin’ their own dang business…” Robin took the short opportunity granted to her to grasp Boothill's face in her hands and pull him close, just shy of brushing her lips against his again. Catching on in the blink of an eye, she could've sworn she saw steam coming out his ears, the ever-growing whirring of some part or another deep underneath metal plating hard to ignore. If she pressed a hand against his chest, would she feel something beat underneath? Curiosity won over as she gingerly did just that, her fingers brushing the edge of his jacket. She heard him breath out, the telltale beat quickening beneath her touch. Whether it was steel or not, it didn’t matter to her; what did was his existence in the world beside her here because of it, in this small little slice of a world on a starfaring express. She wouldn’t trade it for anything. “…Birdie,” He rasped, his breath feather-light against her gloss-coated lips and hotter than she thought it'd be. His eyes flicked up to meet hers, voice low in the dim light with sprawling stars their only witness. “You sure about all this?” She smirked, at that, drumming her fingers against his chest before dragging her hand up, past leather and iron to ultimately graze the hard line of his jaw with her thumb. Gauging his reaction, watching the way his eyes fought to remain where they were instead of gazing any lower, she let out a content huff at the way his lips pursed into a thin line for only a moment. The hum of the Express became an enveloping accompaniment to the quickening pace of her heartbeat, any silence that would have surfaced in the seconds between dissipating fast.
