I'm a Bi male, I have a boyfriend (as if that's at all relevant). My grandparents were nearly exterminated for being 'sub-human', not everyone in my family survived. Nearly every time I go through an airport I'm pulled aside for "random screening" because I look vaguely Muslim.

American bombing campaigns in South East Asia (from both Democrats and Republicans) killed millions of innocent people and directly lead to the rise of Pol Pot, all because they wanted to be free independent countries. Not just books & not just in the 60s even today the US gov spends billions influencing the media. Last year it approved for another $1.6 billion for anti-china propaganda alone (for reference, that's more than the entire Russian state propaganda budget).
