those who do ask for you to be deported, where they suggest you to go? just want to get a cheap airfare and before everyone knows where the next "top critical theory" is going to come from and take over all the good aisle seats of the plane...

And second, it is different to identify oneself as Jewish in a context where there is an 'hegemony' that is revolutionary. When the 'hegemony' is something else, the identification may mean something else as well. Some people will find the identification useful, some will not...

And let me add 2 points that I take from your excerpts that can help. First, this is not just an importation. It is an 'ethnic' move of second/third generation with its own characteristics. Elements resonate in other times/places. But context matters.

Revolutionary Jews coerced because of their politics but not (revolutionary historians argue -to object the hijack of memory by official Jews) because of their identity. And then once 'taken' suffering as Jewish. This makes the situation interesting to reflect on the role of identification...

During the dictatorship there Jews were over-represented in the people 'dissappeared' (kidnapped, tortured, raped, killed). But current scholarship argues "they were not taken as Jews, but suffer for being Jews in the ilegal camps." This puts a 'turn' into the idea of identification.

Thanks @blbalthaser.bsky.social , this adds food for thought. And Chance for open the dialogue. It would be interesting to see how this plays transnationally. Among Jews such as Jose Slavo in South Africa, M.Rom can talk about Brazil. In Argentina I can say there is an interesting debate ongoing..

So… at least to my reading this is the same project. The longstanding Jewish revolutionary project. The identification with Jewishness changed in time, place, particular line and subject. And there lies the difference. But I do not see a tension. If there is… happy to think it together.

In this way, this time in Europe is much closer to what was happening with the movements Benjamin B talks about (and there were other Jewish movements in Europe -like the Bund- that was doing it even before).

When we advance in time, now with the Frankfurt School, I argue that both the identification and the utilization of some Jewish alternative elements was much more present.

There I analyze two authors (Marx and Luxemburg) that without any doubt de-emphasized their Jewishness or their Jewish connections. The point is not to say they did not identify as Jewish but that they were doing the barbaric Jewish work even without acknowledging it.

He is doing an amazing work reconstructing this tradition in the current context that is much needed. What do I do? I look at the same tradition. But I do it starting in the 1840s in central Europe under the frame of the non-Jewish Jew of Deutscher.

@blbalthaser.bsky.social if I am not wrong, writes on social movements in the US with a longstanding tradition with identification with Jewishness. He is doing an amazing work reconstructing this tradition in the current context that is much needed.

Did I? Happy to hear there is a correction became @blbalthaser.bsky.social is right. But I think there is not a challenge but a collaborative reading across time and space.

The opening of archives may well be politically motivated. www.amazon.com/Peronism-Big... The archives are just part of the story...

yes, true. But we need to be also careful with the weaponization. Historians argue that the image of Argentina as a refuge for Nazis became a US political project to associate Peronism with Fascism to challenge hemispheric independence. The US likely received more and put them in higher positions.

But now one American Jew shooting other two Israeli Jews in Florida. Each side believing they were threaten or attacked by Palestinians. The Palestinans threat was just part of their imagination making a cruel irony that rings very tragically with the past of Jewish history.

The demonization of others whose mere existence is seeing as a threat, the ongoing support for genocide and/or ethnic cleansing, and the persecution against the protests should be enough for us to interrogate its instrumentalization.
