He knows and cares, but understandably needs some sort of economic backup in case the US cuts trading ties with Canada in some significant way. That would be like significantly worse than the great recession and leave millions of canadians jobless, so gestures like this to improve relations are fine

You can deflate wages with PCE and get a very similar story, and PCE imputed financial services increases when interest rates (including mortgage and auto loan rates) go up

Inflation, mostly
February 15, 2026 at 11:09 PM
Oh, and housing especially! Housing market activity is historically low, mortgage rates are high, and a huge portion of sentiment is based on whether people think they'll be able to buy a house. IMO it's pretty underdiscussed, even if housing inflation (including rent) isn't that bad anymore
February 15, 2026 at 11:08 PM
I don't think it's "word games" to point out that even after adjusting for rent, food, transportation, etc, *most* americans, and particularly the lowest income Americans, became more economically secure under biden. But it is also true that "most" americans still excludes millions of americans.
February 15, 2026 at 11:06 PM
I think that's a separate issue though. I do think that AOC's claim that the working class was stagnating is just incorrect, but I think it's important to acknowledge that some parts of the economy are bad (e.g. how long it takes to get a job, and rents in metropolitan areas)

It’s not short term economic health, a president from either party succesfully firing a Fed chair over monetary policy means a financial crisis and retirement savings wiped out. Either way, Warsh would be a *maximum* 1% difference in interest rates for one year before he’s replaced anyway
January 30, 2026 at 10:07 PM
I mean we can remove him for cause in that case, I agree. But if we fire him (successfully, unlike Trump) because he’s not cutting enough to finance a large spending package, that’s textbook fiscal dominance and how you get 8% mortgage rates basically overnight.
January 30, 2026 at 10:06 PM
I guarantee you firing Warsh will be worse for the economy. He’s going to get outvoted if he tries anything stupid
January 30, 2026 at 8:50 PM
Where are you seeing this lol, i've been spared from this. I boycott most small businesses though

*due to disinformation
July 23, 2025 at 11:16 AM
my leftist friends are convinced that every vote against a progressive is due to discrimination, and when i point out that they're just racist they say it's disinformation too. they don't think they deserve to lose Medicaid, but Americans are animals that only understand pain

Tariff impacts haven’t hit yet so yeah. Wait until a treatler sees an empty Walmart shelf (or I guess said treatler’s Instacart shopper)
