"If you increase your support, if you do what it takes, just a bit longer, I KNOW I can turn this around...!"

-"That all?"

"Yes!! Why are you looking at me like that...?"

-"...Respectfully, on those terms... you're kinda fucked, bro."

Well one problem here is a spiral of self-fulfilling prophecies. With better support Ukraine could probably be in a much better position to impose terms on Russia. But the western allies kinda decided this is as good as it's gonna get and Ukraine will be forced to factor that in.

I'd suggest the latter are in fact DESPERATE for a reliable customer. A match made in hell - a political movement in need of bullshit X those who sell bullshit

The next contender for "funniest picture ever" will have some heavy lifting to do

Hypothesis: xenophobia and immigration restrictions create societies that hate "strangers" and crave restrictions. Dunno about where you live but in my country the least diverse places are the most racist. An obvious feedback loop. To end this you'd need exposure + no talk about "the good old days"

Maybe one silver lining with AI is how it shows us that we - not just corporations and institutions but also the public at large - have had an [insert art here] attitude rather than recognizing the real worth of a human putting thought and feeling into all that we used to behold
November 18, 2025 at 7:23 PM
...art replaced by an *idea* of art. Prose replaced by a *concept* of prose. You remember they used to call this AI dreaming. It preys on our capacity to *feel like we have looked at something*, just like a nonsense dream can make you feel like you have spent 10 years writing a best selling novel
November 18, 2025 at 7:06 PM
One nefarious aspect is that this builts on a tendency to not look too closely and puts it on steroids. "Sciency-looking cover" and you get what they aproximately mean and that's enough. And then in a couple of years we'll find we have been sleepwalking looking at nonsense 90% of the time...

So one gets the impression those subs care more about the fantasy of their submission than the person they are supposedly submitting to?
November 18, 2025 at 2:18 PM
Important distinction between "uuuuff I don't like THAT" or "here's all the interesting ways in which this is fucked up" VS "They Never Should Have Written This In The First Place, Let This Be A Lesson To You To Never Write Anything Lest You Risk Becoming An Abomination Like Them""
November 17, 2025 at 2:53 PM
Maybe a messy human way of being a parent IS good enough, and defining abuse obsessively enough to make it *literally impossible* to being a human who raises children is just anti-human, self-destructive self-pity
November 17, 2025 at 1:34 PM
...Maybe, unlike anti-vaxxers, we can recognize that there ARE real dangers, but that there is ALSO such a thing as too little tolerance for the risk and pain of being alive and loving another person, and there is such a thing as reaching wrong absolutist conclusions.
November 17, 2025 at 1:27 PM
Raising children is one of those things were you can SO easily talk yourself into spirals of guilt and paranoia, because who would want to run even the TINIEST risk in regards to CHILDREN? Maybe this helps: Anti-vaxxers followed that exact same logic. We are better than anti-vaxxers, right...?
November 17, 2025 at 1:24 PM
...It's like people talk themselves into being scared of Life itself and attaching moral rightousness to it, and whether or not you want children, this shit can't be healthy, right?
November 17, 2025 at 1:06 PM
I recently saw a tumblr post arguing "mostly bad irresponsible people have children, GOOD people care too much about how bad our world is and worry too much about being good parents to risk it". I wanna scream into a pillow
November 17, 2025 at 1:05 PM
When we see that in stories, it's culture catching up to the fact that the face of evil is "the one true prince", and updating accordingly...
November 15, 2025 at 8:54 PM
"handsome romantic prince vs creepy horny sorcerer" -> "macho sexist jock vs underappreciated sensitive nerd" -> "wholesome himbo vs toxic incel"; narrative hypothesis: When a group of men gets culturally vindicated, they abuse that position to become the villains in the next stage of the cycle
November 15, 2025 at 8:52 PM
The point is not to find ways to make millionaires happy but it's worth pointing out rich people much like petulant toddlers have a better grasp on what they want than what they need. Don't let policy be dictated by those who always scream "ice cream!" long past developping a tummy ache
November 14, 2025 at 1:24 PM
I can't even imagine if someone got free reign to turn every kink and fetish on everything up to and including deviantart into a model toy army. What a world
November 14, 2025 at 12:30 PM
Don't you see stating facts is embracing facts is defending them. Like, all those historians who wrote about [whatever atrocity pops first into your mind]. Why would they even research any details about how it happened?! If you don't agree with something then don't even LOOK at it, duh.
November 14, 2025 at 12:27 PM
Folks love the myth "Once there was a good king, then the bad king usurped the throne, if we restore the good king we'll all be happy". Spoiler alert, the old king sucked too, the right plan is and has always been to deal with our fucking issues du jour on our terms and build a better future.
November 14, 2025 at 10:38 AM
It's very simple - people hate the present and project all their desires onto a fictional past. It's even older than the nazis building their ideology on some idea of a "pure germanic past" that never was. Oh look, now Europeans believe there was "a better simpler time without immigrants".
November 14, 2025 at 10:32 AM
Sure on the surface this seems to be done in a "let's find why Hitler was so Evil and make fun of his micropenis" spirit. But it's the exact same logic of people who believe they can find a gene that proves the *genetic inferiority* of any group of choice. "DNA magic" is one ominous belief to have.
November 14, 2025 at 10:25 AM
Sorry but I feel everyone making "clone nazis would be bad" jokes are kinda missing the point. Nazi clone babies would literally just be regular babies. Nazi dna is just regular dna. It's the people who THINK there is something special to find here who are the problem.
November 14, 2025 at 10:16 AM
As someone above said the problem is that people think trying to find something genetically special about Hitler was worthwhile AT ALL. *Genetically* speaking he was just some guy. Why do they want to find magic blood. Why magic nazi blood. Fascism is not a magic mystery of History, it's happening
