Read the Bluest Eye in college in about 1986. It still clings to my soul.
TBH though, the very first audio book I ever listened to, (on cassette tape, no less,) was My Soul To Keep in the early 2000s, and Peter Francis James’ Dawud haunts me/ melts me to this DAY!!!
