Research on atmospheric aerosols w/satellites, models & impacts such as atmos-ocean exchange processes (SOLAS!). Atmos. polarization radiative transfer, #physics overall. Sharing and commenting on papers and sat images of (my) interest #highlatitudedust
In fact the same spot was producing dust yesterday too.

#highlatitudedust activity this morning in the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes (AK) visible from space (early overpass Terra) and the FAA webcam.

While Terra satellite is drifting (into an orbit from where it will be decommissioned), it is still capturing images.
Here a #volcanotrack Mt Michael in the S. Atlantic (9:30UTC) but in the overpass of SNPP (15:56) there is no trace of activity. This illustrate how ephemeral volcanic activity is.

In the #LithiumTriangle area today in NW Argentina, dust activity in the Dead Man dry lake (which says everything about conditions in this place).
Because emission is as such elevated place, dust is injected in the mid-troposphere were winds can carry it long distances including to Antarctica.

And this morning #highlatitudedust activity continued in Patagonia, so mostly likely there was dust emission all night.

#highlatitudedust activity in southern Patagonia yesterday late into the evening.

Several dust sources along hundreds of km along with dust cloud and plumes that extend as long .

This #highlatitudedust event in Patagonia travelled north towards the coast of Brazil.
While not hear off, it is rare to see confirmation via satellite. In this case, GOES near-IR channels picked up the signature of the dust cloud.

More #highlatitudedust activity today in central Patagonia from dry lake Colhué Huapi. From satellite it is a rather cloudy scene w/some clear pockets is visible (arrows) & confirmed by surface webcam.

More importantly most of the dust will not be detected by satellites algorithm (bcse clouds) .

Why some #python package names and import names in the calling script are not the same ? who came up with this logic? I was suddenly transported to the #DarkAges of coding when u troubleshoot til bleeding your fingers, then try the less obvious and random things, and only then you find the error.

#highlatitudedust event in Central Patagonia a few days ago as seen by MODIS Terra and Sentinel 2.

Yesterday in the South Atlantic, minor volcanic activity in Saunders (top) and Bristol islands. The former is a constantly active volcano whereas the latter is not frequently seen active.
Feature noted are #volcanotracks, normally seen in passive active volcanoes in cloudy conditions

After all it is like a message in a bottle sent from the mid 1800s , from an America that was waking up and start to show its scientific and technological might.

You do not have many latest editions of textbooks as much of them are now provided online. But a lot of first editions and classics are there.

Like first editions of Scientific American (shown). It is impossible not to resist and open one volume and see what one can be surprised with.2/n

I miss campus and in particular the Goddard library (all inaccesible because shutdown).

Renovated recently to become a training and meeting space, the library has a terrific science collection.

Another day of #highlatitudedust activity in central Patagonia, with a pretty sizeable dust cloud going into the SW Atlantic as the sun sets over the area.

Dry lake Carrilaufquén Grande in northern Patagonia is one of those #highlatitudedust sources that occasionally emits abundant dust like in this example where the dust cloud is too diluted to provide good contrast but it is quite clear when it reached the ocean.

Enjoying a classic book, very good for refreshing concepts and learning on #chiral materials (and symmetry in our world ) and those who studied it.
Really good background info of u r interested in optical #polarization .

Yesterday in Central Argentina, #dust and #smoke mixed because coincident & different air masses. Winds from the W went over the Andes and fanned fires in the Cordoba province hills. Smoke remain relatively high. Same time a lower cold front from the south lifted dust plumes (brownish).
