Going back to Ajax, under ETH you had arguably the most successful Ajax side since the 90s and they all fit the brief perfectly. The fact that hardly any of them have found success elsewhere shows how much the whole can be greater than the sum of its parts. Recruit a team, not individuals. (fin)

I think the hard part is that you need have the patience for it all to come together. Got to have a unified approach from the board down and recruit staff who agree with and fit the philosophy, *especially* your recruitment team. Then recruit players according to mentality more than skill.

I think there are also other, smaller or milder examples on the continent too, certainly there's a few besides Ajax in the Netherlands who hold onto the Total Football ideology and "433 or GTFO".

Would it work in the Prem? I think it could, so long as there's some flexibility.

I think that most successful clubs recruit a manager to fit their style and the squad that has been assembled. Each appointment being a reaction to the last is what badly run clubs do.

Ajax have done it for decades, then abruptly changed tacks after ETH left, and have been an absolute mess ever since.

this book was written in 1996 by a 48 year old British man and no cis person in 2025 has a single goddamn excuse to behave differently

TBF, it was a mob battle, so lots of enemies but none of them high on armour or HP. Still, 19 kills in the 1st round with Cassia technically being the only party member to take a turn (Argenta's was a bonus turn)

JB vs JC in... No Time to Walk the Line (There's definitely a better mashup title but I am tired and that's the best I can do right now)
