When you're excited because your hometown is in @theguardian.com but they misspell it the second time it appears written in the text.
P.S.: sardinhas doces are filled with an egg yolk, sugar, and almond cream/paste, covered in a sugar and cocoa syrup, and they're absolutely scrumptious 😋

Following a late breakfast of sardinhas doces, Troncoso’s (sic) sardine-shaped, almond-stuffed sweets, I make for Marialva.

Funny annecdote about the publication of Darwin's "On the origin of species". Over 150 years later it feels like peer-review didn't change all that much.

His publisher toyed with changing the book’s title (he preferred “The Origin: Natural Selection”), and one peer reviewer suggested that Darwin drop all the evolution stuff and expand the chapter on raising pigeons. (“Everybody is interested in pigeons,” the reviewer explained.) Darwin demurred.

It's important that male fertility, and its consequences for female health, is showing up more frequently in the news. As the author, Elle Hunt, says in the end "Women may not need further reminders, but men might do well to remember: you can’t bury your head in the sand."
Text saying: "Study of the causes and treatments for male infertility is chronically underfunded, being seen by research bodies as falling under the purview of the booming fertility industry – but its extensive R&D focuses on women. In roughly 25% of cases of heterosexual couples presenting with troubles conceiving, the man does not undergo any evaluation at all. It shows how – to give the title of the paper where I found that disturbing fact – “male infertility is a women’s health issue”, under-researched by scientists, neglected by industry and largely ignored by men themselves."

Great to see the consequences of advanced paternal age given attention by The Guardian.

But problems pile up as a man gets older. Stem cells acquire more mutations. Epigenetic marks get modified. Experiences in the man’s life, including environmental exposures, cause oxidative stress and damage. These things, and more, may act in concert to cause the effects researchers are seeing in children born to older fathers. What’s clear is that paternal age matters – and that more men are becoming older fathers. As Robaire and Chan write, a number of factors including delayed marriages, second marriages, assisted reproduction, treatments such as Viagra for erectile dysfunction, and celebrity men modelling older fatherhood “have provided elements for a perfect storm”.
