Senator Bernie Sanders
@sanders.senate.gov
Sen. Sanders of Vermont, Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions, is the longest-serving independent in congressional history.
In two years, Israel has killed more than 1,000 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

Every day, settlers attack Palestinian villages. Netanyahu & his extremist allies have one goal: annexation by force. The U.S. has enabled them.

NO MORE U.S. MILITARY AID FOR ISRAEL.

I want to thank the students and educators at Twinfield Union School for inviting me to have a wonderful discussion about the many issues impacting them, our state and the country.

Is AI inherently bad? Of course not.

The question is: WHO controls it & for what purpose?

Does anyone believe that the richest people on Earth are investing hundreds of billions in AI to improve life for ordinary people, eliminate poverty & solve global warming?

I doubt it.

Jon Stewart and I agree:

AI must work for everybody, not just a handful of billionaires.

Last night’s lavish White House dinner showed us the global oligarchy coming together in plain sight.

By cozying up to MBS, Trump has signaled to the world that the United States is now on the side of authoritarianism, not democracy.

Thank you to the more than 700 students who joined me and the “Godfather of AI,” Nobel Prize winner Dr. Geoffrey Hinton, at the Georgetown Institute of Politics and Public Service.

We must ask ourselves: Will AI benefit all of us? Or just the billionaires?

The President of the United States is willing to see children go hungry to make a political point.

Despicable.
November 12, 2025 at 8:28 PM
Last night, tragically, 8 Democrats caved.

But the struggle continues.

Short term, we must not allow health care premiums to double for more than 20 million Americans.

Long term, we must provide health care to all as a human right.

Tonight was a very bad night.
November 10, 2025 at 3:09 AM
I’m no great fan of the ACA.

I believe we should guarantee health care as a human right through a single-payer Medicare for All system.

But — at minimum — we cannot allow Republicans to destroy our already-broken system by doubling insurance premiums for 20 million Americans.

I want to see this shutdown ended as soon as possible.

What we need is an agreement that will protect health care for the American people.

But if there's no legislation that will pass the House and be signed by President Trump, it will simply be meaningless gesture.
November 7, 2025 at 11:35 PM
Trump claims to be a dealmaker. Well, let's make a deal.
November 7, 2025 at 9:59 PM
People fought and died to defend our democracy.

We need a government and an economy that work for all of us, not just a handful of wealthy campaign donors.

That's the nationalism I believe in.
November 7, 2025 at 2:37 PM
This is what oligarchy looks like:

If you're Elon Musk, the richest man alive, Tesla gives you a $1 trillion pay package & Trump gives you a huge tax break.

If you're a poor kid on SNAP, Trump appeals a court decision that would have prevented you from going hungry.

Obscene.
November 7, 2025 at 12:18 AM
“Everybody I know is screwed if health insurance premiums go up.”

That's what's at stake in this shutdown.

No. I will not vote for a budget that doubles premiums.

I will not vote for a budget that makes the largest cut to Medicaid in history.

Democrats must not cave.
November 5, 2025 at 12:35 AM
AI and robotics will transform our world.

Will these revolutionary technologies make life better for working people, or will they simply make the richest people on Earth even richer and more powerful?

That is the great question of our time.

I’m saddened to learn that beloved Iowa community member and priest, Father Treviño has passed. He was a brave man who will be missed as a tireless voice and leader for the vulnerable. Let us carry forward his mission of justice. My condolences to his family and community.
November 1, 2025 at 7:18 PM
I'm grateful that the Vermont governor & legislators acted to prevent Vermont children & families from going hungry.

Now Trump must obey the law & release $5 billion in emergency SNAP funding appropriated by Congress.

The richest country on Earth shouldn't be facing a hunger crisis.
October 30, 2025 at 3:46 PM
Republicans are taking away health care from 15 million Americans.

They are doubling premiums for 20 million.

Now, they are illegally withholding emergency SNAP funding that keeps millions of children from going hungry.

All so they can give $1 trillion in tax breaks to the 1%.
October 29, 2025 at 3:24 PM
It's time to acknowledge reality:

Our health system is broken. It's time to guarantee good-quality care to every man, woman & child in this country.

Our campaign finance system is broken. It's time to get rid of Citizens United and publicly fund elections.

Let’s do it.
October 22, 2025 at 11:21 PM
Here’s what’s at stake in the shutdown:

If Republicans get their way, 50,000 Americans will die unnecessarily every year.

15 million will lose their health care.

20 million will see their premiums double.

All so they can give a trillion dollar tax break to the 1%.
October 22, 2025 at 9:30 PM
I don’t often agree with Elon Musk, but I fear that he may be right when he says, “AI and robots will replace all jobs.”

So what happens to workers who have no jobs and no income?

AI & robotics must benefit all of humanity, not just billionaires.

October 21, 2025 at 10:13 PM
Our job is not to throw 15 million people off health care and double insurance premiums for more than 20 million.

Our job is not to shutter community health centers, nursing homes and rural hospitals.

Our job is to fix a broken system and guarantee health care to all.
October 11, 2025 at 5:41 PM
Premium increases notices will soon arrive in the mailboxes of Americans all over the US.

The average increase? 114%.

For some, the numbers are even higher:

A couple making $129,000 with two adult children at home in Savannah, GA, will pay $3,150 more per month for insurance.
