Especially for people who grew up with parents like that, calling out that behavior is very reasonable. Still doesn't mean I'd jump to calling Toriel a horrible parent, but I do think just brushing that off isn't in line with the story and the themes at play either. Both things can be true.

Particularly because of Kris' reactions in the scene in this case is why I consider it important. Kris just looks away, in an embarrassed manner, and inspecting the kitchen cupboards Kris alludes to knowing the alcohol is missing, like it isn't the first time.

In fairness, Toriel being drunk to the point she doesn't try to call Kris when they've been gone for hours, brushing Kris off when they return home, saying there's food for them in the fridge (when there isn't), IS neglectful behavior.

That isn't her whole character, but it's important nonetheless

Gameplay wise, how would you compare it to previous titles? Especially when you say returning to the series roots.

I haven't really been looking into Assassin's Creed much in recent years, but a game trying to go back towards the series roots sounds interesting.
