Don’t overlook the north east. I wish Aberdeen was still the thriving place it once was but the east coast has gorgeous scenery (Lossiemouth beach is a favourite), lots of castles (including one that was said to inspire Bram Stoker) and is close to Speyside and the Cairngorms.
