All of this is to say, among other things, that I looked at flights to Portland for the RC, where I could also visit friends in Seattle, but decided it wasn’t worth traveling.

Some part of it is that I used to be working toward building a Hall of Fame resume in Magic, and that motivated me to try as hard as I could to attend events, and now I have no real ambitions, but that might be for the best in terms of letting me maximize my time.

This mostly represents positive changes in my life—I’ve found/built a network to spend almost all of my time doing things I like, and disrupting it to travel just doesn’t make as much sense as it used to.

When I used to travel all the time, I was always sad when someone else who used to travel a lot stopped traveling, but these days, I find myself less inclined to travel as the total value proposition (measuring only fun) isn’t great anymore.

These days I find that traveling for a weekend often takes two extra days while I’m traveling and don’t get to have much fun, and while I like the things I travel to, I’m always aware that I’m leaving my friends and missing out on things at home again.

As an adult, I found myself traveling a lot. My friends were meeting in places all over the world to play Magic and I wanted to be there. It was great that I could travel to do that.
