I'm lucky in that my kids are all teenagers and can be home by themselves, but I imagine parents with younger students are really put into a bind when they cancel school but the roads are fine enough for everyone else to have to go to work.

The roads aren't even bad; the snow is very wet and heavy and is melting easily on the treated roads. Also, every snow day they have means it may be necessary to add extra days to the end of the year. No one wants that. Not students, nor school staff, nor parents.

It's very possible that my perception has been skewed by time, but it just feels like they play it TOO safe nowadays. It's not that big a deal when they have virtual days instead, but today is a full snow day, with no online presence required.
