I was super into it even before I realized it was Trent & Atticus. Best part of that movie, for me.

Cheers for these recos. I'm going to look into the Narayan edition—it seems to be a good summary while maintaining some of the awesomeness of language... I've seen th Van Buiten one too at the uni library which also looks good but they don't have all of the volumes :/

Speaking of which... is there a Mahabharata you like? I got the 10 volume Penguin edish and it was written by an economist! (it reads like it, too :X) But I agree with what you say; maybe all books you love find you not the other way around.

Does your mind ever feel like exploding due to so much cool stuff? Thanks though! It seems Penguin is a reliable source. I've had mixed results with the ancient texts. The Shah Nameh for example doesn't have an adequate English translation. Just need more time better memory card in my brain....

Any reco on a good entry point for westerners into Chinese literature/philology? Any particular translators, books to put the works into perspective, etc. If only other cultures were as developed in English as the Greeks...

Yeah it was a formative book for me as a teen, but one I find increasingly problematic as I get older.
