The crossing guards at 8th and S NW take things seriously re: policing car traffic and are so great to all the kids, neighbors, and dogs passing through. They make everyone’s day a bit brighter.

Everyone born between roughly 1945 and 1990 grew up in the shadow of the fear of nuclear annihilation. It was probably traumatizing, but that’s better than being blithely unaware of the stakes.
