Since it's 50 years since the hīkoi it seems appropriate to share this recent release: E Whaea o te Motu which is written in English by David Hill, translated into Te Reo Māori by Stacey Morrison, and beautifully illustrated by Story Hemi-Moorehouse

Today's pukapuka is Te Wehenga: The Separation of Ranganui and Papatūānuku by Mat Tait (Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō, Rangitāne o Wairau, Ngāti Kuia). It's a beautifully drawn piece of art, using Te Reo Māori and English together.

It is a sci-fi apocalyptic poem that is an epic story, but also written in such a way that it's also a really cool for learning the language (there are some translations so even if you have limited Te Reo Māori you can still follow along).

There’s a note from the editor saying that they will work with the artist to bring a new and exciting story to future issues, but from then on in I can’t find any comic stories.

Somewhere between Vol10 Issues 3-5 the format changes back again, to being prose with one or two illustrations, and then the series ends completely in Vol 11. No.4 (December 1950).

Interestingly, it changes back again to a full comic strip in Vol. 5 No.3 and really starts experimenting with panel layout.

Now, I may be seeing things but on Vol1 No2 p22, there looks to me like a small initial signature on the bottom of panel 32 – JP, perhaps?
