The County Council's recommendation, published last night, to continue with the sale of the Ada Belfield Centre, is disappointing.

The published report will be considered at a meeting on February 20th, when a decision on this and other Derbyshire care facilities will be made.

I recently wrote in the Derby Telegraph about the threat of flooding.

It is one of the issues that concerns residents the most.

Read my article below to find more about why our flood defence capabilities matter 👇

I met with John Forkin from Marketing Derby, an organisation dedicated to promoting what Derby has to offer to business, and encouraging investment here. 📈

Its work will provide opportunities to drive economic growth and job creation in the region. 👷

People desperately need better and faster access to healthcare.

The Elective Reform plan will mean thousands of patients will receive a diagnostic and treatment date within a single day.

I'm pleased the govt has set out concrete first steps to slash our waiting lists and do good on our promises.

I was pleased to join with people across the community in Belper at the weekend, as part of the campaign to save the Ada Belfield centre.

It is a vital service, and we must ensure that it has a future.

China’s oppression of its Uyghur people is appalling.

Many people outside of China may not realise Uyghurs are exploited in supply chains that support products bought around the world.

That’s why I encouraged the government to keep it under review to help end the oppression.

I was happy to visit Deaf-initely Women recently.

The session gave me several issues to take forward to help improve life for deaf, hard-of-hearing and deafblind women.

I am pleased Derby’s Labour council has secured the future of 10 local libraries.

This includes libraries in Allestree, Chaddesden, Spondon, and Springwood – where the council will be working with Sporting Communities CIC to maintain the service

I spoke on a panel organised by CILIP highlighting libraries as centres of essential learning.

Library visits have increased by 71% between 2021-22 and 2022-23, despite many local authorities facing cuts, closures or reduced hours.

They must remain open to provide good services to our communities.

Supporting Ukraine is not only about security in Europe. It is in our self-interest too.

But if Ukraine falls, it is not just a European problem. That’s why I raised with the minister that many African nations are dependent on Ukrainian grain, and people could starve if the supply is reduced.

I met with Gary Parson recently.

He is passionate about supporting business leaders and their mental health.

It is important we have these conversations, as it is something often overlooked in business.

I look forwards to supporting him in the future.
