Finally filing for unemployment since my last severance check is arriving today, and did you know that in the state of New York, the year is 1985, not 2025?

You might sneer at the idea of vegetarian chili, but this is the PERFECT fall meal. (The recipe makes enough to last 2 people multiple days!)

Re: handwritten note: Adjust the heat level to your liking.

Pro-tip: Sprinkle some shredded cheese (Mexican blend or cheddar) on top and let it melt a bit!

Here's a fun Jeopardy! origin story for @aaronlevinefox13.bsky.social! (shared w/ permission)

We don't know each other, but he sent me this nice DM the day after my episode aired.

It took just over 4 years, but he's now a Jeopardy! champion, with an impressive wire-to-wire win yesterday! Congrats!

a cropped page from Bruce's Big Storm by Ryan T. Higgins (published 2019), which is one of the books in our toddler's library — the full line on the right is "It's for rumpusing":

things you can do when you're unemployed (and your kid's in daycare): trek into Manhattan to see a nearly three-hour movie with your wife at 11:10 on a weekday morning, projected *on film* in VistaVision, sitting near the dead center of one of the optimal rows

It was a joy to have the chance to read another one of Matt's oral histories ahead of time, especially since Shadow of the Colossus is one of my all-time favorite games. I was honored that he asked me to bring my copy editing fingers out of their forced early retirement!

Damn. If you're more familiar with his (great) early stuff than his third album, Black Messiah, go check it out now.

It was such a thrill to see him live at the Roots Picnic in 2016 — I was sick, and it had been raining off and on all day in Bryant Park (and he was late)...but the show was amazing.

worth noting that the Yankees' numbers here are inflated by the 7 runs they scored in Game 2 when it was already well out of reach

(by the way, they have just TWO hits tonight through 6 innings at the plate)
