Using Siri is like trying to talk to a 3-year old. Doesn't understand all the words properly or gets them wrong, and most of the time just points you to mommy Google for help.

Apple should just buy Perplexity and replace Siri with it. Then it would be actually useful for more than setting a timer.

For everyone who thinks a phone camera makes purpose-built cameras obsolete: samipaju.com/blog/pocket-...

Before you get your knickers all twisted, I'm not saying that you can't take good photos with a phone. Just saying that my 2013 pocket camera is still producing better images.

Reading the 50 Years of Travel Tips -article by @kevinkelly.bsky.social

”For a truly memorable trip, go without reservations, just winging it along the way.”

I would not follow this one in the US. Unless you want to get detained. Everywhere else in the world, except North Korea, not a problem.

I think Leica D-Lux 8 is the best first camera for someone who wants to learn photography.

And Putin striking Kiev, killing 9 civilians and wounding dozens is not "jeopardizing the peace deal?"

Give me a break.

How about criticizing the aggressor for a change.

"Elon Musk to reduce US government role after Tesla profits plunge."

At this point the only thing that can save Tesla is for Musk to completely detach himself from the brand.

This is not going to help.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

So, the DOGE kids intend to rewrite the social-security administration's COBOL code-base!

and they want to do it ...

... in *a few months*

I did a huge dive into COBOL a few years ago (www.wealthsimple.com/en-ca/magazi...) ...

... so let me explain why DOGE is *way* over its skis here

Don't let the title fool you. If you want things to get better, it's time to tax wealth, not work. This one's worth reading for its details. It's information everyone who is of voting age and living in a democracy should know.

I wonder if people burning Tesla's realise, that one likely consequence is that an insurance company will just pay for a new Tesla to replace the burnt one.

So instead of a Tesla owner buying just one car, even more money will flow to Tesla and Musk.

So now that UK government has forced Apple to remove end-to-end encryption on iCloud, if there’s a data breach due to that, does it mean UK government can then be held liable for damages caused? Because ffs they should be.

This is a line from the Hobbit film, but still very much worth sharing as work inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien.

I understand you are frustrated, but if you think government contracts to SpaceX are a sign of corruption, look at how much money was given in past to e.g. Boeing and Lockheed, and for what results, before SpaceX came around and made getting to orbit significantly cheaper for all.

@melissabonny.bsky.social was great to see you play live for the first time in Helsinki! It surpassed all expectations.

I was a fan before but even more so now.

Also, love how the new album is different in style from the previous ones! Always great to see musicians break new ground :-)

Missing a few things:
- snowboarding (with friends)
- board games (and friends to play them with)
- reading
- writing

And whoever created that originally has never had a home-cooked meal by yours truly.

For someone in the hobby it's easy to keep up with the hype train and become aware of games like Arcs and SETI, but what have been your most interesting new under the radar #boardgame discoveries of 2024?

For me: Zhanguo (the new version), River of Gold, and Capital Lux 2: Generations.

Sometimes I feel like the UI designers at Microsoft must be getting paid by the number of drop-down menus.

Or how else would you explain so many baffling drop-downs that only have 1-2 choices in them?

Shame the article doesn't mention if the 4-day work week comes without reduction in salary. If salary stays the same, I could easily see how this might work even better than hoped.

But if not, the question is how many can afford to take it?
