The first modern examples of commodified labour, land & money are the Portuguese on the island Medira in the 1450s. The bureaucratic tools of colonialism created the markets Adam Smith rationalized. Well after it had created an assertive merchant class demanding more power for themselves. (Locke)

At this point literally everything Sanders warned about for 40 years: Oligarchy, rights erosion, ending of democracy. All is coming to pass. Still centrist dipshits like this pretend they are the grownups in the room. It's impressive really.
March 23, 2025 at 4:29 PM
She never gave a shit about democracy. She profoundly resented the fact that her side of the party was wiped out by maga. Before trump there was a good chance she would have been a nominee by now. Ridiculous to believe this of someone who defended every extra judicial action taken by her father.

We were talking about the advent of liberalism dont change the topic. And no; they increased their class' power relative to monarchy. Mainly because the aristocracy was bored, incompetent and didn't want to do the work that kept them powerful.
March 23, 2025 at 4:04 PM
Wow then they sure seem pretty powerful. A long termist pragmatic liberal establishment that cuts deals with blood thirsty corporations and police unions would surely also be able to... oh, oh fair enough. Enjoy your bed!

Drones. They want an army of encrypted drones. Like the black mirror episode. Thats what this would mean. Ur right small arms are too far gone. Not sure that would matter if u produced half a million cheap killer drones run on skynet or whatever.

They can't admit this. For years western liberals have scorned any hint of this idea. Now the richest man alive tells the billionaire president, with a billionaire cabinet exactly what to do and still they cannot admit this. They have invested too much in punching left to admit they were wrong.
March 23, 2025 at 2:27 PM
Thats not what OP meant at all.
March 23, 2025 at 2:11 PM
Liberalism does not predate capitalism but more importantly it absolutely does not predate monarchies or colonialism which are its bedrock. Liberalism was a newly rich class of merchants, lawyers and guilds using their wealth to build power & legitimacy & its still popular among this class today.
March 23, 2025 at 2:06 PM
Tories said shite like this for years. It will all go to the private sector. Most private health care money of any MPs campaign was Streeting's. Maybe the fact that we don't hear about the good stuff is because they don't do much of it and when they do it's to throw a bone to ppl they don't like.
March 23, 2025 at 1:48 PM
They kept being slavers for another 100 years and a war. Liberalism is progressive politics for the rich. Changes of power without changes of structure. Equal societies with profound inequality. A lie proudly spoken by ppl who've already won the unspoken game of money and power but feel squeemish.
March 23, 2025 at 12:46 PM
They are liberals they have no sauce or ability to relate to people.
March 23, 2025 at 12:37 PM
Cromwell had a good chunk of them arrested or killed. Specifically the ones calling for land redistribution and free elections. Beautiful metaphor for liberalism generally. Doomed, high minded ideas cobbled together retrospectively after all the people wanting real change are contained or killed.
March 23, 2025 at 12:32 PM
Yeah this feels like its reaching tbh
March 23, 2025 at 12:20 PM
The rich will be much richer and the poor will be much poorer. Living standards will be worse. These pip cuts will lead to thousands of deaths and bankruptcies that the NHS and local govt will pay for. Forcing some councils themselves into bankruptcy. But no the city is marginally up so hooray.
March 23, 2025 at 11:08 AM
The book tour got cancelled. Looks like ur stuck with the actual politicians.
March 23, 2025 at 9:32 AM
Sounds like this experiment failed and they should roll back to paper then. No idea why this is an argument for having the most addictive media devices ever created in every kids pocket while they're being taught about the constitutional separation of powers or whatever.
March 22, 2025 at 3:40 PM
I think we should not have addictive corporate objects designed to harvest attention & data in these spaces. The spaces often provide the only chance many kids have to liberate themselves from their situations & we know it leads to worse educational outcomes.
March 22, 2025 at 3:36 PM
Would love to see the stats on that from a time that wasn't necessarily extraordinary & required them for schools to function. Everything i can find said it is varied between school districts and not the norm. The deeper point you make is a profoundly bleak one that I disagree with. We should try.
March 22, 2025 at 3:06 PM
U mean over the course the pandemic when everyone was at home they bought cheap computers so you could work from home? No shit it was 90%.
March 22, 2025 at 2:33 PM
Most schools don't have 1 to 1 chromebooks wtf?
March 22, 2025 at 2:14 PM
Ikwym
March 22, 2025 at 2:04 PM
The true cultural disconnect here is that politicians like Schiff assume poor ppl are happy when you tell them you've created more work for them to do.
March 22, 2025 at 1:38 PM
Yes plz
